Radio

This is the most obvious thing to get started. At least we need Radio, Antenna and Cable.

There are alternatives on having this equipment: Make or Buy.

Radio is a two way, from Handy Transceiver (HT), Mobile Radio, or Base Station.

To make it work, we have to have a match configuration of Radio-Cable-Antenna, depending on where (in MHz) and what (in Mode) do you want to operate.

For example, if we want to work Voice DX in 15m band, we need a Radio capable on transmitting (and receiving) in 15m (21MHz) and Antenna designed to work on 15 m band, coupled with Cable suitable for coupling the Radio to the Antenna.

There are two basic aspect on 2 way Radio: Transmitter and Receiver.

On transmit, how much power it can produce (in Watts ranging from 1 watt to 200watts), on Receive how good it can hear the weak station (sensitivity).

Of course this is also depending on how good the antenna is.

In case you Radio does not have enough power, an Amplifier can be added to boost the required output power.

In case the antenna and cable is slightly mismatch, an Antenna tuner can be added to 'adjust' the coupling between Radio-Cable-Antenna to a safe level.
