Duits/Nederlandse grens in the provincie Groningen.

Almost at the end of the mainland of The Netherlands.
This stone measures 145 x 145 cm. Engraved is
Lunctun a quo - 203 - Ao. 1859.
The metal shield has also 203 engraved.

Grenssteen 203. Bijna aan het eind van het vasteland van Nederland. De steen meet 145 x 145 cm. De uitgebeitelde tekst luidt Lunctun a quo - 203 - Ao. 1859. Het metalen schildje heeft nr. 203. De link verwijst naar een on-line kaart.

I found this stone on my third visit for the first time.

The photo is from an even later date.

Really the last stone at the end of the mainland of The Netherlands.
The marker measures about 30 x 30 cm.

Maps show another marker further to the north in the Dollard. This marker should be in the water or the muddy flats at low tide.

Grenssteen 203-II. Dit is echt de laatste grensmarkering op het vasteland van Nederland. De steen is plm. 30 x 30 cm. Op kaarten is nog een grenspaal in De Dollard aangegeven. Deze paal staat in het water of in het slik tijdens laagwater. De link verwijst naar mijn pagina over die grenspaal.

The perfect straight border along the fence and through the reed, leads towards the Dollard/Eems region. This is a tidal zone. In the Dollard the border is fixed but in the Eems the border is in dispute.

On the horizon is the German city of Emden.

Kijkje naar het noorden. De perfect rechte grenslijn langs het hek en het riet leidt naar het Eems/Dollard gebied. Dit is een getijdengebied. In De Dollard is de grens vastgesteld, maar in de Eems is er nog geen overeenstemming. Op de horizon ligt de Duitse stad Emden.
