Current Shack: 2015-Present
This shack lives in a corner of our bedroom. The desk is a youth desk that I had when I was a boy.
- Elecraft KX3 & PX3 Panadapter
- Bencher BY-1 iambic paddle
- Nye Speed-X straight key
- Icom ID-880H VHF/UHF/D-Star transceiver that I won in Icom's monthly Ham Nation prize drawing for October, 2015.
- MFJ-4230MV 30-amp switching power supply
- Baofeng UV-B5 dual band HT
Second Shack: 1996-2014
This Ten Tec Corsair station has lived in three different rooms in my house over the years. It also spent quite a few years in storage when I was wasn't active on the ham bands. I built the cabinet when it moved to a corner of my bedroom where my current shack is. I replaced this rig with my KX3 at the end of 2014. I sold it off in 2015 because I didn't have the room to keep it set up in the shack.
- Top Shelf: TenTec Corsair (Model 560) with 500 Hz and 250 Hz CW filters, as well as an 8-pole 9 MHz IF filter
- Bottom Shelf: TenTec Model 280 power supply, Model 263 remote VFO
First Shack: 1991-1996
This is the shack I put together when I first got licensed. Most of the equipment was purchased from (or donated by) my elmer, K1AYZ. The gear is as follows (Left to right):
- Johnson Matchbox with a Heathkit SWR bridge sitting on top of it
- Johnson Viking Ranger II CW & AM transmitter
- Astatic D-104 microphone
- National NC-303 receiver with an MFJ clock and Ham Key keyer on top of it. National speaker mounted on the wall
- Ham Key paddles
Note that my callsign at the time was N1JHN. I had lots of fun working the world on CW with this station; I even made quite a few AM phone contacts around the eastern US and Europe. I sold the matchbox, Ranger II and NC-303 to fund the purchase my Ten-Tec Corsair station, above. I sometimes wish I still had this gear, especially the NC-303, but I wouldn't have the space for it, anyway.
