QRP - Low Power Operating

QRP operation is classified as 5 watts or less on CW, and 10 watts or less on phone. In December, 2014, I made the decision to become a 100% QRP operator. This decision was driven by two main considerations:
  1. My neighbors' houses are so close to mine that operating at 100 watts was bound to cause interference to electronics in their homes - I know this because it was interfering with poorly shielded computer speakers in my own house. Also, I wasn't sure if my antennas would be able to meet the FCC's RF exposure guidelines.

  2. The North American QRP CW Club has an award for making one QRP CW QSO every day for a year. I deciced to make my mobile operations QRP, too, to give me more opportunities for QRP QSOs as I work toward achieving this award.
