QRP - Low Power Operating
QRP operation is classified as 5 watts or less on CW, and 10 watts or less on phone. In December, 2014, I made the decision to become a 100% QRP operator. This decision was driven by two main considerations:
- My neighbors' houses are so close to mine that operating at 100 watts was bound to cause interference to electronics in their homes - I know this because it was interfering with poorly shielded computer speakers in my own house. Also, I wasn't sure if my antennas would be able to meet the FCC's RF exposure guidelines.
- The North American QRP CW Club has an award for making one QRP CW QSO every day for a year. I deciced to make my mobile operations QRP, too, to give me more opportunities for QRP QSOs as I work toward achieving this award.
Please visit the other pages in this section of the web site for more information on QRP.
