About

Me and the Hobby

I have held an amateur radio licence since 1996. My first callsign was 2E1FIT, followed by M1CFX a year later. I passed the morse exam and got the callsign M0CWX on 16-11-2000

The main station address has moved over the years from IO93IF (1996-2002), IO93LW (2002-2006), JO02BE (2006-2009), IO91WM (QRT), JO02BF (2015-2017), IO92AL (2017-2019) and currently IO82XK (2019-).

I am interested in all aspects of the hobby. I like seeing what I can get away with, both in terms of low-power and what I can cobble together as TX and RX. I'm unlikely to use shiny new equipment and high-powers. For a few years, I used only indoor antennas for VHF and UHF with surprisingly good results.

I like operating from the tops of hills (/P) when I can.

M0CWX

M0CWX is able to operate on all bands from 1.8 MHz to 10 GHz from home. Although, on some bands MUCH better than others!

The furthest confirmed signal sent in a straight line from M0CWX is 39,000 km (on 2.4 GHz). Terrestrially, a more modest, 8800 km (on 21 Mhz), although this must have bounced a few times!

The shack is solar powered.
