WISCONSIN AMATEUR PACKET RADIO

The following is excerpted from the August 1985 issue of The Wisconsin Packeteer put out by W.A.P.R.

BEACON TEXT

Well it finally happened. The first official meeting of the "Wisconsin Amateur Packet Radio Association" came to be a reality. On July 13th, 1985, we all met at the South Milwaukee (Oak Creek) Hamfest. And a good, one it was. Most important, we all found out that we not only talk a lot on the" terminal screen, we also talk a lot in the meeting place. Great participation came from almost everyone. North Tomahawk & Green Bay), South (Illinois & Virginia [pure dedication!), East (Milwaukee and Racine are as far east as you can go East in Central Wis.), arid West (Madison, Portage & Baraboo).

Attendees of the event were: -

KB9OM, W9YBA, K4ZIV, K9EN, WB9JLN, W9TQ, KC9CI, K9IZV, WB9WRW, W9ZGS WA9POV, WA9SOU, WA9CXG, W9BRD, WB9VCH, K9NC, WB9YLR, N9EYI, K9GDF, WA4COY, WD9JIJ, N9HR, W9YCV, KD9PR, KB9OL, N9BPO, WB9UQT, WB9OWN, KB9OK, W9IUP, WD9ESH, KN9P, W9WI, N9TD, WB9NOC, W9BTQ, WB9HCO, WD9ILG, WA9KEC, KC9BF, N9CLE, WB9SDA

By unanimous decision it was agreed that W.A.P.R. should continue to be a viable asset to our packet radio affiliation among operators. Rather than have organizational officers, it was also agreed that W.A.P.R. should be directed by a steering committee. The following "Packet Operators" were agreed upon to constitute committee:

WB9SDA  G. Gilbertson, Rt. 1, Box 53, Brownsville, WT 53006
WA4COY  K. Moran, 145 Rei11y Dr., Fond du Lac, WI 54935
W9ZGS  V. Buland, 21600 Washington St., Grayslake, IL 60030
WD9ESH  D. Boede, 570 E. Tenth St., Fond du Lac, WI 54935
N9CLE  W. Dieter, Tr. 3, Box 252, Tomahawk, WI 54487
WB9WRW  R. Armstrong, 315 Morey St., Waukesha, WI- 53186
WA9SOU  J. Corstvet, P.O. Box 4007, Madison, WI 53711

Since it was decided that any "packet-news" or general info generated in the line of packet radio was considered to be important to W.A.P.R., feel free to contact anyone on this committee with items for the newsletter.

FREQUENCY CHANGE

The other major topic covered 'at the South Milwaukee meeting was that of operating frequency. Going into the meeting our packet operations were spread out on different frequencies and for differing reasons. However; this will not fit the. concept of digipeat-ing.

So we made the move 'and' decided to go to 145.01 MHz. Most of us were surprised to see how fast this was implemented. Maybe we all knew that this had to happen. All we needed was the collective 'push that we gave each other. I' see the same calls. I see new calls. It seems to be working great and the network is growing.

WANTED

WB9SDA is looking for interested parties to participate in a weak signal testing program using packet radio. Test objective will be to determine present capabilities, establish a base reference -and then explore new directions in signal and audio processing (FM, SSB, ACSSB, etc.).

He is also looking for persons that would like to discuss propagation studies using packet radio and the automatic recording thereof. Gary is also collecting location data an all stations. Please send him you latitude and longitude for a data base he is building for the group. Gary is also looking for Oscar 10 packet operators to set up schedules on the bird

INPUT VS OUTPUT

In order to make this newsletter successful and as informative as possible to all our packet interest, we will all have to generate the articles for future editions. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways. We are in a communications hobby, lets use it. Pass any info by voice' too if you wish, pass it through message boxes, or in the nail. Send it to P.O. Box 12.15, Fond du Lac, WI 54935, and indicate if you want to be identified as the author or not. If you want someone else to put it to text, just send in the data and mention to have someone write it up.

THE SUCCESS OF THE NEWSLETTER IS UP TO ALL OF US, LETS PARTICIPATE.
