Reference Atmosphere + Water Vapor

To the lowest layer of the model atmosphere (950-1000 mb) we added water vapor. We chose a value of 0.6 for the absorptivity of terrestrial radiation from a recommended value of 0.5 for relatively dry conditions to 0.7 for very moist conditions. For absorptivity of solar radiation, we chose the suggested value of 0.18.

Adding water vapor in this amount and place increased the temperature at all levels, but by less than 1o in all but the lowest level, where the change was +10.66o. The surface temperature increased 7.65o.

Both of the increases in absorptivity increased the temperature in level 20, but little of the excess heat escaped upwards.
