     AM was my second mode of operation when I could
purchase the necessary components to make my rig,
the Johnson Viking Adventure, to operate on "Phone."
By the way, it cost me 54 dollars, a lot of money in re-
lation to income.  A good wage at the time was 80-100
dollars a week before deductions.

     This event occurred in approximately the winter of
1962.  Actually, although I operated very little on AM,
I nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed it, though certainly a
little envious of other kids whose parents could afford
to purchase those expensive toys for their children.

     Of course, some of them had been able to secure a
good job which would allow them the opportunity to buy
their own toys.  For me, it took many more years before
I could afford to purchase just about anything on the market. Boy! That is a comfortable way to feel!
