About the Event

The United Kingdom's Coast Radio Station service really breaks down into two main parts:-

  • Portishead Radio/GKA (GKL to older boys!), the HF long range station, with which must be coupled the stations of the British Empire which formed the Area Scheme and
  • The chain of true Coast Radio Stations which ringed the British Isles (originally including the island of Ireland also) and for decades maintained the vital radio distress watch to which countless mariners owe their lives.
  • Consequently this special event will recognise these two distinct areas and will also have two distinct parts:-

  • A DX event linking Portishead Radio and Area Scheme stations
    and
  • A Coast Station event concentrating on, 80 and 40
  • It can probably be safely assumed that the two parts of the event will overlap on many occasions!

Special awards for these events can be achieved by working a set number of stations.
