AT THE LIBRARY
Where We Celebrate National LIbrary Week:
On April 19, 1997, the Millington Township Library provided their conference room for us to use as we operated in celebration of National Library Week in the US. The library is located in the Village of Millington, Tuscola County, Michigan, USA.
The library serves the townships of Millington and Arbela with over 27,000 volumes. They feature an extensive selection of large print titles, as well as many recorded books. The books-on-tape have proven to be very popular with commuters and others with a need to do more than one thing at a time.A staff of five handles the circulation of 40,000 items per year.
They recently received a grant that was used to install a public use multimedia computer system. Internet access is currently being installed.
Located in the center of the village, the attractive building is larger than it first appears from the street. An addition to the rear of the structure was completed in 1991 that increased the usable space by about a third.
We operated on the 40, 20 and 10 meter bands. Propagation was reasonable for the position of the sun spot cycle, except for 10 meters, which was poor. Most contacts were made on 40. GLARR's 40 foot aluminum tower was pressed into service to elevate the 14AVQ vertical antenna. Sand bags and rope guys held the tower in place for its temporary installation.
