LEARNING  OBJECTIVES and NOTES
2e CEPT and reciprocal licensing
2e.1 Operation abroad under the CEPT Recommendation and under reciprocal licences.
Nature of CEPT and reciprocal licences

You do not need to learn this, but CEPT stands for the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations.

A Full Licence allows amateurs to operate in other countries which have signed up to CEPT. In general there is no need to inform the authorities before your visit. Just take your equipment and your licence and operate using your call sign with the prefix of the country in which you are operating. For example F/GQQQ would be used in France and I/GQQQ in Italy. Many CEPT countries have useful websites for visiting amateurs. It is worth checking the licencing conditions before you operate. For example in Spain the 160m band extends for 1.830 to 1.850MHz so you could not use the frequencies 1.851 to 2.000MHz.

16(1) Operation in CEPT countries by UK licensed amateurs.
You can operate under CEPT where the Licence is a Full Licence, but not a Full (Reciprocal) Licence, a Full (Temporary Reciprocal) Licence or a Full (Club) Licence provided that the Licensee is only a temporary visitor to and not a resident of the relevant host country

16(2) Rules for operation in CEPT countries.
Where the Licensee is authorised to operate abroad in accordance with Clause 16(1), the Licensee shall:
(a) comply with the requirements applicable to the use of wireless telegraphy apparatus at the location of operation in the host country;
(b) present this Licence upon request to the relevant supervisory authorities in the host country;
(c) unless instructed otherwise by the host country, use the Callsign specified in Section 1 of this Licence after the appropriate host country Callsign prefix.

Recall that many countries will offer reciprocal licences to UK amateurs with a Full licence and that operation is in accordance with the host country’s rules.
Finally many countries who have not signed up to CEPT  will offer a reciprocal licence. This will involve completing a form and paying a fee. You operate under the licence conditions of the host country. It is best to obtain these before you travel.
