Advanced Receiver Design Summary
Modern receiver technology tells us that there are a number of critical issues that must be addressed during the design of a receiver in order to achieve the best performance. These include:
- Minimum gain between the aerial socket and the first mode filter
- High dynamic range RF amplifier (if required)
- High dynamic range balanced signal mixers
- Wide band termination of all mixers
- Low noise high dynamic range IF amplifier
- Low noise oscillators
- Separate filters for each mode of operation
- High mode filter stop band attenuation
- Optimised AGC system for each mode of operation (click here)
- An adequate frequency standard
- Good screening around all modules
