The System BIOS

Introduction & Definition

Each Motherboard has a special area of Memory called the BIOS, this is a non - volatile area of memory that is even retained on a power down situation.

Peripherals also have a control ROM or BIOS function, hence it is possible to update Firmware with a later revision to fix minor errors and glitches. These updates will be available from the manufacturers website. To access BIOS you need to press a certain key on system boot, this varies from manufacturer but on an AMI BIOS pressing the "Delete" key will take you in to the programme. The boot screen should tell you which key combination is required by you.
