The 53rd post-war annual FOC dinner was
held at Lords on Saturday, 7th October. By all accounts it was a most
convivial evening. 103 FOC members, partners, friends and guests sat
down to a splendid dinner. Prior to the dinner, many members and friends
had come in during the morning and afternoon to meet up with old and
new friends. Following the dinner, the outgoing president, Don, G3HZL
installed Dave, G3RXP as President of FOC for 2000-2001.
Another highlight of the evening for many people was the award of
the Al Slater (G3FXB) Memorial Award to Roger Western, G3SXW.
Roger exemplifies what FOC means to many people and it was truly a
pleasure to see him win this award. As in previous years, a station
was set up at Lords to enable members to get on the air with the FOC
Club call. It also provides the opportunity for contacts with those
who are not able to join the gathering at Lords.
This year, the station proved an excellent opportunity to try out
the new Yaesu FT1000MP Mark V.Many operating awards, including those
for the winners of the 2000 Marathon were awarded.
