to Motorola P25 Digital

Introduction
Honolulu International Airport operations
moved to a Motorola Type II SmartNet system in the late 1990s.
Plans are underway to shift all state airports including HNL to
a Motorola ASTRO P25 trunked radio system.
HNL will complete the transition to the new radio system in 2008.
System Layout
HNL has a one-site, 4 channel system.
Once the transition to P25 is complete, it will be a single-site,
seven-channel mixed mode system with a 3600 baud control channel.
If the state decides to purchase a Motorola ASTRO 7X system, it
will be a full P25 system with the 9600 baud control channel.,
System Users
All state and federal agencies at Honolulu International Airport
EXCEPT the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) uses this
system.

Monitoring This System
Scanners with Trunk Tracker I technology or above will monitor
the current analog system. Scanners with Trunk Tracker III technology
have a Control Channel Only Mode feature that allows you
to program only the control channel, and this will allow you to
determine system frequencies and talkgroups without having to
know the other working frequencies in the system.
NOTE: Once the transition
to digital is complete, only P25 capable scanners will be able
to monitor and track this system.
