N4XXO, Trustee

Skip started out in radio as a teenager, first as a SWL listening to commercial and amateur radio stations using his father's shortwave receivers, then later as a licensed CB operator. A ham radio friend of Skip's used a mobile radio and made a phone patch call to his wife and Skip was hooked. He passed his Tech Plus license (with 5 wpm code test) in 1989 and was issued his call N4XXO. Excited about DX when first licensed, Skip earned his DXCC all on 10 meters! After the code requirement for upgrade was dropped by the FCC, Skip earned his General and Amateur Extra in later years. Skip was active in local Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in Escambia County (FL) and became the trustee of W4GTF (Gulf Task Force). He was also active in the Five Flags Amateur Radio Club in Pensacola, FL (W4UC) and ARES. As an assistant Emergency Coordinator (EC) he represented SAR at the Escambia County (FL) Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Skip and his XYL moved into Westminster Village in 2023 and he is a founding member of ARCWV. Skip remains active with the local Baldwin County Amateur Radio Club (BCARC) and ARES. Skip is also the Chief Instructor for our ARRL sponsored Technician classes held at Westminster Village and an ARRL certified Volunteer Examiner (VE).
