The Pancake Antenna on a DXpedition

Sometime last year I constructed a compact antenna that is essentially a dipole but with both ends curlicued. The 40M model had a total wire length starting at 33 feet each leg that had to be trimmed to resonance.

Transporting it to Polillo Island, IOTA OC-091 was no fuss save for the loss of the 32 inch boom that may have been stolen at the bus terminal. It was first to go up onsite as assembly was rapid even after we scrounged for leftover pvc tubes.

First to make contact and it did not blink in the face of competition. Radio Position 2 had a 15M 2el Quad and full-sized verticals for 20/40M while Position 3 was equipped with a 2el. Yagi and full-length wire verticals for 30/40M. We used it on 40M phone to chat with the local gang but it sizzled on 15 and 17M too, with a tuner of course. Contacts were with stations in Europe and the USA.
