Nice view from one of the higher elevations near Shamokin, the Cameron culm bank overlooking Tharptown, about 1400 feet above sea level.

Me and my faithful "navigator", Buster.

It's hard to get lost with all of this electronic gear. Mounted on the handlebar is a GARMIN GPS receiver, used for tracking my location by satellite. GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System, is the only system today able to show you your exact position on the Earth anytime, in any weather, anywhere. GPS satellites, 24 in all, orbit at 11,000 nautical miles above the Earth. On the rack is a UNIDEN MR-8100 scanner to monitor forest fire and other emergency broadcasts and a YAESU FT-1500 Ham radio transciever.

Have a GPS receiver, enjoy the outdoors? Try "GeoCaching", click on the logo above to get in on the fun of this hi-tech, hide-and-seek adventure .

One of the many large machines used in the process of strip mining coal from the mountains surrounding Shamokin.
