My mother taught me
how to knit when I was about 8 years old and have been knitting ever
since. I also do other 'needle' crafts including but not limited to crochet and
quilting. Another mother that has adopted from China was looking for a
ladybug sweater and I produced this pattern for her.
For those that don't
know the story of the ladybug and the significance of them related to adoption
here is the basic story. A few years ago in China there was a lot of ladybugs
seen and therefore they were thought to be a lucky charm for those that were
adopting. And now whenever ladybugs are seen, it is thought that more
beautiful children are being referred to wonderful waiting parents.
The red
sweater shown on this page is one of six that I made for my adoption/travel
group. It took about a month of almost constant knitting to finish
them. I gave them to my group once we had our children in China.
The sweater is a basic
pattern that can be made in any color for size 6, 12, and 18 months. All
you have to do is change your needles and yarn size. The ladybug is then
knitted right into the back. There is also a smaller ladybug knitted into
the left front. The ladybug pattern might be a little tough for beginners
but if you want to just make the basic sweater, the pattern is available.
The cost is $35
if I make the sweater or only $5 for just the pattern. The cost includes shipping
and handling (over seas orders slightly higher). It takes me
about a month to make the sweater with all the other things I have to do so be
patient with me getting it to you.
