Here's my 1995 Hummer in the drive, It won't fit in the garage without folding in the mirrors, it's too wide (8'-10" mirror to mirror).

In the garage you can see the tail end of my 1974 El Camino Classic. It had 105,600 original miles when I sold it earlier this year.

GPS III & TH-D7A

A shot of the GPS-III and TH-D7A mounted for tracking. Below the D7 is the control head for the IC-706. Well, I finally cleaned up the GPS and TH-D7 cables mess, here's what it looks like now.

Later I will be mounting the Agrelo DFjr for ARDF work. One of the best things about the Hummer for Amateur Radio is the big (approx. 6' x 6'), flat roof area and the diesel motor (no ignition noise). The body of the Hummer is aluminum but the roof is steel so is easy to mag mount antennas like the DFjr's.

The RF Deck of the IC-706 and speaker used with it. . The IC-706 is wired directly off the battery via its own fused and filtered power cable. The panels located to the left and right of the speaker and IC-706 hide the fuse block and duplexers.

I've added the L.G. Electronics
AT-11 Specs ==>>AT-11 Digital Autotuner to my IC-706. The tuner is not visible and is completely controlled through the IC-706.

Close-up of the antenna installation. I ordered a replacement cover and routed the coax through the scupper vent to the inside. This allowed me to not have to drill any holes in the roof or body. The cover comes unfinished, you need to paint to match your vehicle.

Another view of the Comet # CR627B
Tri-Band antenna.

The angle bracket is a Pro-AM CB mirror mount bracket. The bracket and hardware are all Stainless Steel. Under the scupper vent cover is the other half of the bracket serving as a backup plate to the bracket. I removed the stud mount for the CB antenna and drilled out the hole to accept the Comet antenna mount.

The antenna, antenna mount, and mounting bracket were all obtained form HRO

The Comet CR627B will TX on 6M/2M/70cM. It is the fold-over design so I can get the Hummer in the garage. When folded down it's only 4" above the roof. I use a small flexible dual-band (144/446) antenna when I'm in the woods.

The mount is a SO-239 type so I can connect to other antennas for fixed use easily without disturbing any cabling.

The operators console before I cleaned up the cabling (took me a while to decide where to mount everything).

Here's a close-up of the Icom IC-706 Mk II G and the Clarion AutoPC. I replaced the stock Clarion Stereo/Tape unit with the AutoPC.

Still looking into how I can interface it with the Icom or TH-D7A for packet.

The GPS uses a Mighty Mouse external antenna permanently mounted on the roof (sorry, no detail photo). It comes with a magnetic base so you don't have to mount it permanently. These are great antennas, go to Wolfe's GPS Accessories to get yours.
They also have a variety of cables available.
