'95 HMC4 - CTIS Repairs

Before repair.

The area in the red circle shows where the leak occurred. You can see that the air line is way too close to the exhaust. This leak would have been tough to locate with soapy water as it is hidden under the heat reflective tape on the air line. A good amount of careful listening in a quiet place was what allowed me to locate this leak.

Another photo showing the location of the leak and the point of connection to the front distribution block for the front axle (tubing disconnected at the block). You can see that there is excessive length in this line which is why is snakes around through the engine bay. I shortened the line by about 6" in the replacement.

See my email in the Digest archives for a description of the repair.

A peek at the underside of the Hummer. No undercarriage protection yet.
After replacement with the new air line tied off and away from the motor so this doesn't happen again.
CTIS pump/Hood Release cable contact has caused this abrasion of the pump housing (21,000 miles on vehicle). There is not much clearance for the hood release cable between the pump and the hood. The hood also shows signs of wear. I've anchored the cable down at this point to stop the vibration from causing any more damage. I also installed a sleeve made from a scrap piece of 1/2" air line over the hood release cable and positioned it at the wear point. The cable was held out of the way so you can see the wear point in the photo.
