Election Night Support
Torrance Landing Zone

  • DCS is again assisting with Election Night operations at the seven heliports in L.A. County used for ballot transport.
  • Please consider signing up to serve at the Torrance helicopter landing zone
  • We will observe face covering and social distancing

October 15, 2020
The Great California Shakeout
1000-1200 hours

  • As many members as can participate in the annual earthquake exercise should check-in on our tactical frequencies and report simulated Mercalli scale observation and availablity
  • LMT will receive simulated SitReps from participating city radio groups on our EOC Link frequency
  • For cities without a city radio group, members will travel to the city halls and create a simulated SitRep in the field
  • LMT will consolidate and forward city SitReps to the simulated EOB
  • Use of NBEMS is encouraged

Narrowbanding Project Support
0730 -1500 hours each day
  • DCS Members assisted CFMB in re-programming of  LASD vehicle radios
    • We provided record keeping and vehicle positioning  
    • Face-covering, social-distancing, and safety procedures were observed
  • In addition, deputies exchanded their APX-8000 handhelds for newly programmed radios
  • One extra day was added at South LA from the original plan
  • Six members participated covering the 3 days at SLA and the single day at LMT.

Countywide DCS Annual Member Meeting

  • Out of an abundance of caution, the Annual Meeting scheduled for March 16th has been postponed due to the COVID-19 virus. As soon as it’s practical, a new date will be set.

  • In the interest of member health we are postponing our District 3 & 17 member meetings at the Lomita Sheriff Station to a later date.
  • New dates will be announced by late April.

Los Angeles Marathon - Other Hours

  • Over 22,000 athletes from all 50 states and more than 63 countries set out from Dodger Stadium to the Finish Line in Santa Monica
  • Amateurs staff the water stations, medical aid stations,  the start and finish lines, Santa Monica EOC and the Incident Command Post.
  • DCS Members known to have participated:

Election Night Support - Torrance
  • DCS assisted with California's Primary Election at seven heliports in Los Angeles County, including the Torrance Landing Zone. 
  • At Torrance we logged and handled 147 boxes and 25 large bags of ballots over 7 hours.
  • Members participating at Torrance were: Mike, T-100; Gary, T-222; Cindy, T-223; Jeff, T-234; and Deane, S-50.  Diana, S-60 was the lead at Santa Monica Airport with Teri, J-01.

Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K/5K
  • We provided communication support for the race, augmenting the Redondo Beach DSW organization. 
  • This event is effectively a disaster communications field training activity. 
  • 10 LACo DCS members, 2 RBPD DSW members, 1 PVEPD "NART" DSW member, 3 Torrance "TARA" DSW members and 3 additional operators staffed the event.
  • DCS Members participating were: Bob, T-22; Ray, T-88; Mike, T-100; Mike, T-109; Curtis, T-124; Norm, T-219; Steve, T-227; Jeff, T-230; Jeff, T-234; and Diana, S-60. 
  • According to the race director there were nearly 6300 runners plus a large spectator crowd. Redondo Beach Police Chief, Keith Kauffman personally thanked our team for the support we give the city during this large event! 
  • The Redondo Beach FD also appreciated our participation.
