August 27, 2009 Palos Verdes Fire Activation PV IC Map In the Portuguese Bend area, a fast-moving fire knocked out power and prompted evacuations, beginning on Portuguese Bend Road, Amber Sky Drive and Crest Road. An evacuation center was set up at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. A center was also set up for animals at Ernie Howlett Park on Hawthorne Boulevard. Water drops from the air through the night brought the fire under 90% containment by Friday. Expensive homes in Rolling Hills and Rancho Palos Verdes had been threatened, with flames at the eaves of some residences. Wilson Cam Mount Disappointment installations sustained major damage. While the 145.30 repeater survived, the 147.270 WA6ZTR was out of service for some time.
August 25 – September 3, 2009 Morris Fire County Activation Activation concluded 8/27/2009 San Dimas/Walnut Stations were activated to assist with the fire on 8/25/2009. The RRT was subsequently requested and members were deployed and on station by 0600 hours on 8/26/2009.
