The Maldives were for a long time a sultanate, first under Dutch and then under British protection. They became a republic in 1968, three years after they gained independence. Tourism and fishing is the main economy archipelago, with there being 82 Tourist islands out of the 202 Inhabited Islands you can see how big Tourism is in 8Q7. We will be there in the wet season with 200mm of rain per month and average temperature during the day of 33c and at night 25c. We will be staying at the Lohifushi island resort which is a beautiful resort in Lohifushi which is located in North Malé Atoll the website is http://www.lohifushi.com/.

The Maldives is also the perfect place for amateur radio, with the highest point on all of the islands being less than 3m high! We will be on the north of the island with a perfect take off and nothing but sea in the line of sight.
