Dondra Light House is situated in the southern tip of Sri_lanka. It is about 150 ft high and built by stones. There is a spiral ladder inside the Light House up to the top most floor. Radio Society of Sri-Lanka special event station 4S7LGT was operated from the top floor. From the balcony you can see beautiful "Bulutota" mountain range from the North and endless Indian Ocean in the South. Kindly note that there is no land in between "Point Dondra" and Antarctica.

4S7SW "Sarath", 4S7KG "Kule", 4S7SKR "Mario", 4S7PR "Adrian", 4S7DF "Dammika", 4S7YW "Yoshan", 4S6UV "Uthpala, 4S6AK "Asantha", 4S5NM "Nalaka", 4S5TP "Thusitha" and few SWLs including me (at that time I was a SWL) were present at the Dondra Light House Dx-Pedition. 4S7SW "Sarath", 4S7KG "Kule", & 4S7PR "Adrian" operated on HF bands on SSB & CW. 15m 2el Delta Loop antenna was mounted on top of the Light House. That antenna was constructed by Om "Sarath"  4S7SW and all of us gave a helping hand to fix the antenna by the side of the balcony of the Light House.

It was a nice unforgettable experience to all of us, how to put up a wire beam antenna at that height!. On 19-8-2001 early in the morning at abt 06.59 LT , I worked VU2LX  OM Lax on CW. That was the very first official CW contact in my life. Recently I have received a QSL for that contact from Om Lax for which I'm very grateful. Dondra Light House Dx-Pedition was very successful and I returned back home with my father on 19-8-2001 little late in the evening. Hi!.
