The weekend of 18-19 August 2001 was International Lighthouse and Lightship Activity Weekend. As its contribution, the Cape Town Amateur Radio Centre operated a special event station from Green Point lighthouse which is only a couple of kilometres from the city centre.

With a triband Yagi set up about 50m from the sea and a 400W linear, we had great DX and worked about 300 stations all over the world, including a number of other lighthouses and one lightship.

Despite deteriorating wether on the Sunday - which resulted the reflector of the Yagi becoming a vertical element instead of the more usual horizontal configuration - a great time was had by all, with special thanks to Bud ZS1B who organised the event.
