January post-contest roundup

Event summary

The first GQN of 2025 went off with a bang. 40 meters was wide open, with many operators reporting good band conditions. Faint DX could be heard in the background on SSB, I understand the same for CW. Later after switching to 80 meters activity died down, however a number of contacts were still made.

If you have sent in your log, thanks! If you haven't, you have until Saturday 1st February to get those in.

Results

Results will be published after the log submission deadline on Sat 1st February. Link to results page.

Request for feedback

I need your feedback, especially for the changes to 40 meters and the new contest times. I'm also looking for feedback on the logging spreadsheet after receiving some correspondence about this.

I'm also looking for feedback on the quantity of data that needs to be logged (for example home station/portable/back-country, CW, DX, name, location, RST and serial ). If you have any thoughts on the current setup, or if you have thoughts on other ways of doing it, I'd be happy to hear your ideas.

Request for comment - digital modes

Feedback from the 2024 GQN survey suggests there is interest in adding digital modes to GQN. Suggestions so far include FT8 and FT4. More and more contests are including FT8/4 as interest in the modes is huge.

Do you have any ideas of how a future GQN would look like with digital modes? Please email me your feedback, I'd love to hear it!

Next GQN contest

The next GQN contest will be held on the 1st of March 2025 (note the change of date to avoid JWFD) starting at 2100 on 40 meters.

73's and see you in the next one!
