Ian Sexton (ZL1PZ) was interested in radio from his teenage years. However, on the day he received his amateur licence war broke out and ham radio activity was prohibited. Ian joined the New Zealand Air Force in 1942 and studied radar technology. In 1943, he served in the Solomon Islands as a radar and radio technician, just after the American forces drove the Japanese from Guadalcanal.
Peter Henderson (ZL1PJH) retired from the computer industry in 2016 and then fulfilled his lifelong goal of becoming an amateur radio operator in 2018. He enjoys participating in car rallies, fun runs and cycle race events in the role of radio emergency communications. Peter recently took part in an AREC event to provide emergency support for South Auckland Car Club Hill Climb in Maramarua Forest.
