ANNUAL REPORT OF THE OFFICIAL BROADCAST MAY 2002

The Official Broadcast has continued this year with very few problems, other than the usual - scratching for copy each month. Sincere thanks to Bev ZL1OS and Biny ZL2AZY who have sent me copy from time to time. Jim ZL2BHF has continued to co-ordinate the presentation and most times the OB has been pre recorded about 4 days before its broadcast each month. The broadcast itself has been kept to about 2 minutes presentation time as requested by Jim.
It has concerned me for a while that I did not have an understudy for this function and am happy to say that Rosemay ZL1RO has now agreed to fill this role. Many thanks Rosemary. Because I now have an understudy I am more than happy to continue to do the Official Broadcast for WARO for at least another 12 months if it is the wish of the AGM.

Many thanks to Jim and NZART for the time they allow us to have each month on the Official Broadcast. I believe that it has the important function of keeping WARO to the forefront of Amateurs minds and keeps as all in touch with what is going on.
Please please though I would love more copy.

Nomination for the Myrtle Earland Memorial Rosebowl
NZ WARO Achievement Award 2002 -Jeanne Gilchrist ZL4JG

Jeanne Gilchrist ZL4JG joined WARO in 1981, and newly licensed as ZL2UEI, made a contribution as early as June 1982 when she became Break-In columnist for the next 2 years.

Upgraded to ZL2BOD and living in Taranaki, she became Vice-president in 1983 and President 1984-86. Jeanne has also served WARO as Contest Manager 1987-1991, Bulletin Editor 1992-1995, Secretary 1997/98 and Executive Committee 1999. Jeanne has always been willing to work for WARO and is a meticulous researcher and writer. Her short history of the First 21 years appeared in Break-In and she edited and published Celia's 25 year History in 1987. After transferring this history to CD Rom this year, she is currently collating the next 15 years to 2002.

Work on WARO's Constitution amendments, designing ZL2YL (now ZL6YL) QSL card and the 30 Year Certificates were examples of her attention to detail. As an operator she was one of the ZL2 girls who put ZL2YL on the "radio map" in the National Field Day in 1984, and she has been a regular net and contest contributor in spite of difficulties since shifting to Dunedin and becoming ZL4JG.   Jeanne has also served as an NZART Councillor, and along with her OM, made a major contribution to the Otago Branch of NZART.

Jeanne is a worthy recipient of the Myrtle Earland Rosebowl.
