My Ham Radio Story

My Amateur Radio career and studies began in my Kindergarten years. My first exposure to “Ham Radio” was when my maternal grandfather (Roy Chapman, Silent Key, K4JDN and W8EUZ) brought his “Ham Rig” to our home during the Christmas Holidays.

I earned my “Novice - Technician – Elements 2 Class License,” N5ZPK, on March 17, 1992, while living in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas. I also earned my “General – Elements 3 Class License” while living in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas, and kept my call sign N5ZPK.

I was and still am a member of the Dallas Amateur Radio Club, DARC, W5FC-R.

My family and I moved to Summersville, WV, and I joined the Black Diamond Amateur Radio Club, BDARC, WV8BD-R. I am continuing with my “Ham Radio” Adventures, enjoyment, and studies.

The equipment I most frequently use is an ICOM IC-7300 with an ICOM AH-710 Folded Dipole Antenna.
