Why should You become a Tan Son Nhut Association member?

According to its Constitution the Purpose of The Tan Son Nhut Association is to establish a fraternal forum for any and all individuals who served at or passed through, are related to or are descended from assignees of military or civilians, at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon the Republic of Viet Nam. The organization shall endeavor to establish benevolent, cultural and educational programs of benefit to both the membership and the public at large. These programs shall be designed to perpetuate the history, honor and valor of all those who served at this air base and its environs, with particular tribute to those who "gave the last full measure of devotion" in its defense. The official motto of the Tan Son Nhut Association is: " All Included - None Excluded. "

The key words here are "fraternal forum" and "All Included - None Excluded." Tan Son Nhut was certainly the pre-eminent Air Base, being the headquarters of the 7th Air Force. It was also the Air Base many of us were stationed at or passed through on our way through out South East Asia.

In the early 1970's I decided I wanted to join a veterans organization. The VFW seemed like the best bet to me so I joined a local Post. It soon became apparent that the members were mostly WWII Vets with whom I had little in common. A few years after my membership lapsed I went to some American Legion meetings and found the same situation there. In the early 1980's the TV media seemed to want to portray Viet Nam Veterans like they were all stressed out with PTSD and likely to be crazed killers. This irritated me so I decided to investigate a new organization called the Viet Nam Veterans of America. Unfortunately the few members I met were all combat vets that I also had little in common with.

I discovered the Tan Son Nhut Association a number of years ago while searching the Internet for Sgt. Jerry Fish. Jerry, who is a member of the Tan Son Nhut Association, was wounded during the Spring offensive of 1968. I had been searching for him for over thirty years. The TSNA made finding him possible. I expect that in the future I will meet many of the people I served with.

As a fraternal organization, the Tan Son Nhut Association makes it possible for you to meet large numbers of people that you actually have some thing in common with. Why not join the Tan Son Nhut Association today and share with us your memories of Tan Son Nhut Air Base and the Republic of Viet Nam?
