Strengthened Rib for Foot Brace
This cut out will be the #3 rib in my boat. Notice that it has a considerable
thickness to it. Far more then a normal rib. It is worth the extra weight in
the boat to have added strengthen here.
This is the rib that will have my feet planted on it, so I can brace in heavy
weather. Most ribs can be fairly thin because they really have no force
applied against them in the direction where they are only 1/2" wide. This
rib, however can get considerable abuse in that direction when I am trying
to "lock" myself in. In heavy weather, or in motorboat wake conditions you
may exert a tremendous amount of force with your legs.
