When the message reaches it's destination area, the ham that receives the message calls the receiving party on the telephone and delivers the message. And you should always ask if they would like to send a return message in reply.

We need as many “Traffic Handlers” as we can get because there are many areas of our state that are difficult if not impossible to get a message into, because of a lack of active operators or interest in this service.

Being a traffic handler does not have to be a full time job. If you would check into a traffic net once every week or two, or even once a month, it would help out the service tremendously. It would also help you to develop skills that could well be needed in event of an emergency situation.
