To keep traffic flowing smoothly there are: 3 area nets:

PAN (Pacific Area Net) Which consists of the Pacific and Mountain time zones.

CAN (Central Area Net) Which consists of the Central time zone.

EAN (Eastern Area Net) Which consists of the Eastern time zone.

Within these three area nets there are 12 region nets, which cover the United States and it's Canadian neighbors.

There are numerous section and local traffic nets within the 12 regions.

West Virginia is located in the 8th region.

So a message sent from the east coast to the west coast would most likely be sent from a local to a section net, to the region net, to the Eastern Area Net, and then to the Pacific Area Net, to a region net, section net and then to a local net on the west coast.
