Emergency Locator Transmiter- Spring 2003

(Picture Coming Soon)

Small aircraft use a devise, called an ELT, that transmits on 121.500Mhz AM when triggered by a large amount G-Force's. I modified an ELT to transmit on 121.775Mhz which is the practice frequency. I will use it with Yamhill County ARES to help practice searching for downed aircraft. I also built it into a new metal case to help with shielding. The older one had batteries epoxyed in and anything that could be used to disolve the epoxy would have disolved the plastic case it was in. I also installed a 12V Sealed Lead Acid battery that lasts several days of continuous operation.
For an antenna, I built a Tape Measure Beam for hunting while on foot and a quad for hunting when in a car. I'm also going to build two yagi's to make an interferometer which is acurate to within 1 compass degree.
