USACA AWARD
USA
ALL COUNTIES AWARD, October 2024
After almost
a year of hard work by the Mobile Amateur Radio Award Club (MARAC)
board and other volunteers, MARAC has adopted the USACA award that used to be
hosted by CQ Magazine.
The award
rules are very similar to those of CQ Magazine with the exception that NO
WRITTEN CONFIRMATIONS (Like QSL cards, MRCs, etc) will be required. .
While we were reluctant to break from this long-standing tradition, we
realize that this one requirement has become the top roadblock for many hams
to chase this award. Times when a QSL card in the mail was a given conclusion
are long gone. It has gotten to a point where getting written confirmations
was harder than working the county. No other MARAC award requires written
confirmation, so this will also align the award with all the rest of our
awards. A copy of the new MARAC USACA certificate and a complete set of the
new rules will be added to the website. Applications for all award levels
will be accepted starting November 1, 2024.
NOTE:
If you have
been working hard for years to get all the counties worked AND
confirmed, you can still apply to Brian, NX0X, <[email protected]> for the
CQ Certificate as long as he still has blank ones available for use. Note he
is only accepting applications for the 3077 All County award level.
- County lines for your Garmin
Nuvi GPS
DOWNLOAD FILE HERE.
INSTRUCTIONS:
The zip file if 1.26 MB. Extract it to a flash card in
your computer that works in your Garmin Nuvi GPS. The file 'gmapsupp.img' should be in a folder 'garmin' on the flash card. Remove the flash card
from the computer and plug the card in the GPS with the GPS turned
off. When you turn the GPS on, the county lines should be
there. The unzipped file is just under 2 MB. Any size card
is big enough.
Another way is to unzip the file to a temporary folder on your
computer. Then just copy the 'garmin' folder to your card.
The card has to be in the GPS to work. Remove the card if
you want to remove the county lines. If you buy a new Nuvi, just plug
your card in if it uses the same type card. Otherwise just copy it
to the new type card.
NOTE: The newer units usually use the mini-SD card instead of the
standard SD. You may need an adapter to use in your computer.
It has worked for me on a couple of different models of Nuvi GPS
units. As far as I know, all county hunters that have used this file
have been successful using it on the Garmin Nuvi GPS units when
instructions are followed. Not responsible if it does not work for
you.
Any questions or problems, email call sign aa arrl.net
The data came from the GPSFileDepot and I finally figured
out their complicated instructions and now have it in one file to put on
a flash card. If you have problems, please call or email and we
will try to figure out the problem.

- Outstanding CW Trainer
program FREE - Koch's method of learning Morse is a simple,
direct way of building reflexive responses to individual characters.
This method does not allow you to build that lookup table in your brain.
To copy at full speed, you must build the reflexes in order to achieve
90 percent accuracy. And that's what you're spending your time doing,
building reflexes. How long will all this take? That will depend on the
individual. Koch himself, with hand-picked students, got a group to
master 12 wpm code in a mere 13.5 hours.
