Marconi Cape Cod 1903 Station 100th Anniversary January 11 - 19, 2003

Barbara KB1GSO who works as a Ranger in the National Seashore secured a grant to purchase amateur radio equipment and antennas for the Marconi event. Two complete HF stations were purchased, two Kenwood TS-2000, with Ameritron antenna tuners and AL-80A amps, two portable 50 foot masts with C3, C4 and 6 M Yagi. Two computers with WriteLog and LOGIC6 for logging. Also a Cushcraft R8, a 2 meter 10 element yagi , two Ringos 2M/70CM a 160 and 80 meter dipoles. One ICOM IC-2800H.

All the antennas were preassembled and tested before being set up at Coast Guard Beach in Eastham.

On October 20, 2002 the antenna crew put in a full day erecting the two HF antennas and the VHF Antennas.

Transmission of 1903 and 2003 Presidential Message - January 18, 2003

On the evening of January 18, 2003, KM1CC will re-transmit the 1903 message from President Theodore Roosevelt to King Edward VII. followed by the message from President George W. Bush.

The CW and Phone messages will be repeated hourly for the next two hours. That is 0100/0130 UTC (8:00PM EST)and 0200/0230 UTC(9:00PM EST). All message transmit frequencies are + - 10 Khz.

A certificate will be available to all who correctly copy the CW Presidential messages. Please send your CW copy with a large 9" x 12" self addressed stamped envelope (80 cents) and $5.00 (USA) and $7.00 (DX) to R. J. Doherty, PO Box 1193, Lakeville, MA. 02347

The CW messages will be keyed at 13 WPM by using a cassette tape recording of the CW message from the tape player speaker jack, through the CW Parrot, then to the key jack of the transceiver. The CW Parrot design was from HINTS & KINKS in a March 1983 issue of QST magazine.
