Q:What is RoHS lead free?
A: The manufacturers spent big bucks to shorten product life, to become the eco-party members. That's the propaganda and ideology started by EU liberal-communists.
The lead-free solder becomes brittle in harsh environment. Few degrees under freezing point it grows tin whiskers. Causing shorts, fire, and system failures. Lead-free solder recrystallizes at about -6°C and the solder joint decomposes. It is a matter of time. The car doesn't start. Aerospace products and satellites have failures. The nuclear safety system failed.
We design for 35,000 feet altitude, Alaska winter, and Mojave California high desert weather conditions. Our products are with the genuine leaded SnPb solder, or RoHs.
Q: Is there any global warming?
A: The were always periods of ice age and warmer weather. Present ignorants miss the ice age. There are two ways of motivation. The eco-person is tottaly stupid, shouting to get tax-payer's money grant. The second way: the person is paid by the enemy, to destroy local industries.

(from NASA Goddard Center) Re-crystalization of lead-free solder starts 6 hours after soldering. Exposure to temperatures under 55°F (13.2°C) will speed up the solder joint destruction and decomposition. The tin solder turns into a dust. The tin dust particles move freely on the PCB board. Life expectancy of RoHS boards is about 8 years.
Growth of tin whiskers, tin re-crystallization cause shorts and unexpected failures. Tin plating cause disasters as well. Aerospace, marine, military, nuclear, medical, and industrial products must have exceptions and use solder with lead content.
Dealing with these RoHS ideology of Euro-Idiots caused already enough disasters. Real solution is waste management and proper recycling.

What the security system is good for, when the system doesn't boot after 10 to 20 years?
When the internal Flash memory keeps system configuration, it is a potential disaster. (FPGA). The train won't start or function, as expected.
A word from practice:
After years, the nuclear power plant security system had unexplained board failures. Programmed data in memory vaporized. Some boards failed. Memory chips were run at high temperature with surface temp. 70°C. Heat, not evenly distributed ventilation, chip overheating, sudden current run-out, and tin whiskers on connectors. Somebody asked for a big trouble. The boards were designed by Intel.
