Radio1933 History

A little bit of history about Radio1933 how it came about

Eric G3IMX early radio history

John G3WWM

The group started back in late 1989 with Eric G3IMX retired professional radio designer and retired homebrew fanatic,

and John G3WWM a retired (Capt) of Her Majesty's Services

They started talking on 1.933 most afternoons and evenings.

1.933 was known as mobile channel, Jerry G0IOK/LA0HK was a regulars user of 1.933 Mobile.

Very soon the two found that a good few other amateurs started calling into the group,

and the humour began between the guys, along with a large technical background of radio related subjects

which still goes on to this day.

In the early 90's the internet was just taking off, John G3WWM along with Derek G4CEU decided to put a website up and so Radio1933 Web was born.

Keith G4EQZ came up with the Ballad of G3IMX

Keith (Boris) ... UK/G4EQZ

Doesn't he look a prat ? Is that a hat or a haircut ? Soviet defector and now freelance alcohol consultant Boris - dressed for the part for the 1933 net.

He is about to operate his alligator effect transceiver - all mouth and no ears.

Apparently proper amateurs have soldering irons - not that they necessarily know how to use them

Over the years this site had a few webmasters:

Derek G4CEU

John G3WWM

Keith G4EQZ

Andy G7LRR Current Webmaster

Why not tune into 1.933 Mhz Lsb at 21.00 most evenings.

Operation is VOX or PTT and anything more than one sentence without a break is considered to be a long over.

In any event, you have to drop carrier regularly to make sure the big signals aren't talking over you.
