Dear Friends!
2001st year, the first year of the 21st century and the third Millenium has come to the end. And we - all members of radioclub “Pulsar” send the very best wishes for new year 2002 to our friends all over the world.
We are very grateful to our fate, that you are one of them, because all of our friends, are wonderful people in all respects.
This year 2001 is over and we’d like to thank all of our friends for their support of our activity.
First of all our cordial gratitude to DF3DP - RZ9MYL award manager, DF5EB, DF8PG, DH1PAY, DH6ARM, DJ1KM, DJ1SS, DJ8KC, DJ9SZ, DK2JW, DK6AP, DJ2JN, DL1GWD, DL1SEC, DL3NDU, DL4NCY, DL5ZBT, DL6JD, EA3NA, G4OLF, G4YRZ, HB9KC, JA1EUT, JG5UNQ, K5AB, M5XYZ & 2E0XYZ, OE3FZA, W0RHT, and especially Bjoern DK1EAW for the donations!
Only due to the very kind support of our friends, 6 of our Yls could open for themselves a new world – Western Europe in Summer of 2001.
Now some words about the most bright events in club’s life in 2001.
As you know our club station RZ9ManyYoungLadies belongs to Omsk State teachers’ training university and this station gives a lot of possibilities for its operators to master their language skills. As almost all of them are students of foreign languages faculty, to operate by RZ9MYL is very useful for them. Due to your very kind participation, members of our radioclub may train in speaking during QSOs and in writing when they find pen-friends. But the most important for them is to visit your country, to get to know more close your nature, your culture, your traditions.
Just at the beginning of the year we had a nice guest here – Robert Denton, G4YRZ. He is a (pen)friend of Laima and came to Omsk on Dec 30’ 2000. Our very big “Thankyou” to him for the very useful gift – black ink cartridge for our printer.This meeting in our club gave a very good start to some mutual projects and as a result of one of them Isolda, Laima, Lydia and Tina were invited to England in July. This visit would be impossible without help of Howard Ketley, G4BAS. He could arrange getting British visas without any problems. Our YL’s impresions one may say out just with one word: GREAT!!!

My Dear Russian Friends Isolda, Laima, Lydia and Tina,
I would like to say a big "Thankyou" for the happiness you have brought to many friends including myself after your visit to England in July of this year.
The memories will last forever. We visited Sherwood Forest, London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Scotland, Blackpool, Whitby, Scarborough, York and so many places, and drove approximately 4,000 miles and still didn't manage to see everything we wanted to! It was a real pleasure to see you all, you are all very pleasant and well behaved YL's. You are a credit to your university and your country.
My thanks to Yuri UA9MAR and all those who made this visit possible, Howard G4BAS (President of Russian-English friendship club), Chris M5XYZ & 2E0XYZ,-Jennifer xyl, Neil G0CAS, Pam, and all those who I forgot to mention and whom we came into contact with.
I would also like to mention the young ladies from "Pulsar" who did not get chance to visit, but still who I managed to talk with on the radio, your friendship and bright spirits made myself and many people happy, I hope to meet you all in Omsk next time, I still have happy memories of you from my visit to Omsk last New Year.
Many people ask me "When are the Russians coming again" so....when will you come again? Well, one YL will be here to experience an English Christmas and New Year, One YL (maybe more) is due here in summer 2002, and you are welcome here in England anytime.
Here is the true spirit of friendship through Amateur radio, a learning experience for us all,

My wife, Jennifer and myself gained our amateur radio licences in April of 2000, thereby embarking on a hobby in which we both enjoy.
My first contact with RZ9MYL was with Nastya on 13th November 2000, little did we know where all this would lead! On 19th November, the same year I spoke to Lydia and so followed a long and interesting exchange of e mails and letters between Lydia and Jennifer and me here in England.
In the spring of 2001, we were told that things were being arranged for a possible visit to England for some of the students from Omsk University,so we contacted Lydia by e mail & said that we would be delighted if she would come and stay with us. A lot of complicated paperwork followed but by 14th July Lydia had arrived in England along with Isolda, Laima, and Tina.
Lydia stayed with us for the first of the two weeks and was joined by Tina for the second week. Isolda and Laima stayed with friends in Nottinghamshire although there were occasions when we all got together.
During the two weeks we all tried to do as much and to travel about as far as possible. Visits included the seaside, including the famous resort of Blackpool, the Lake District, Scotland, the North East of England, walks in the countryside, historic buildings in Lancaster and of course shopping, which was much more enjoyable to the girls and Jennifer than it was to Chris.
Both Lydia and Tina participated in the local 2 metre radio net and, on a visit to the Morecambe Bay Amateur Radio Society, both girls were given certificates and life membership!
The holiday was a wonderful experience, unforgettable for all concerned and which has produced, we are sure, lifelong friendships . However all good things come to an end and so it was that we all spent the last day in London seeing the sights of Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the Tower of London and all the other sights before the girls, all four back together now, caught the flight from London Heathrow to Moscow and on to home.
Rina was invited to Germany by Klaus Schepers DK2JN and she stayed in Germany for about 7 weeks In the same city of Duisburg her sister’s family lives, and these two families are now like relatives.
Lana was our first YL, who was invited in Germany(by Ernst H. Hoffmann, DF3DP) and in Luxemburg by René Nesser LX1DW and Mich Friederich LX1KQ.
She went to Novosibirsk for Shengen visa and spent in front of German Consulate entrance three weeks (!!) - almost the whole July- in a very long queue untill she could get in and to apply for her visa. There are some of Lana’s impression:
There are no right words in order to express my sincere gratitude to my friends Ernst H. Hoffmann, DF3DP, René Nesser LX1DW and Mich Friederich LX1KQ, who gave me a possibility to open a new world this summer.
The holidays in Luxembourg and Germany were really unforgettable for me. I suppose, everybody would feel the same after the first visit abroad, like it was for me. It was a wonderful chance to learn a lot about cultural differences in our countries, and also about similarities I made sure that nice and friendly people are alike in different countries.
What has probably impressed me most of all during my visit is the charm of old Luxembourgian towns and villages I really felt I was in some magnificent history book! And of course I was overwhelmed when I have visited a real castle for the first time in my life, as well as a lot of other wonderful places one can’t just enumerate everything!
René Nesser LX1DW wrote about her stay with his family:
During the almost four weeks Svetlana Kotliarova (Op. Lana ) was here , she gave an excellent impression to my wife Juliette and myself, to other family members and to our friends . She was interested in sightseeing, visiting historical sites and practising German, her second foreign language. Her way of talking German was perfect. She even started to understand our language, Luxembourgish. We all consider Lana as a very good friend of ours.
I also wish to thank Mich LX1KQ and Ernst DF3DP for their support .
In March we received the first guest from Germany – Gunter Haertling DH6ARM. He was in Omsk in August 2000, when he met Emma for the first time. This time he came together with Emma to help her to form all documents for their future marriage in Germany.
Our sincere gratitude to him for CW 500 Hz filter for our IC-738, which Gunter donated to our club!
In June we greeted one more visitors from Germany – family pair Ullrich(DJ5TU) &Gerda Theus from Kiel. They were Natasha’s hostfamily in 1998&2000. They spent 4 weeks in Siberia and together with Natasha had a trip to the lake of Baikal. After that Uli & Gerda invited to visit DL next year not only Natasha, but her parents too.
In the middle of July we had two more guests – Edgard Verheugen ON4BEV and Alan Vigas VK8AV. Edgard is a penfriend of Elisaveta since 1998, so mainly he was a guest of her family, though he was officially invited by our unversity. Next year Elisaveta will be the first of our YLs who will visit Belgium for some weeks.
Raimund Walz from Germany was our last guest from Germany this year. He is not a ham, but his collegue is a ham, and in November 2000 he told Raimund about his contact with Lilia and gave him her e-mail address. Since then they began to correspond and in August they met in Omsk. Raimund spent 2 weeks here and invited Lilia to visit him next summer.

Our special gratitude to Reinhard Richter DJ1KM! His modification of our pages was very useful,- he showed us the general direction. Our special gratitude to Erwann Merrien F6JJX, who has translated texts of our pages into French and Hidemasa Kimura JG5UNQ, who made a Japanese version of our pages. Now we need your help in translation these texts into Spanish, German and Italian languages. Now we are about to reconstruct our site in a modern way. By plan there will be a page “Our friends”. So we ask you to send us your picture with an introducing letter. As well there will be pages “Our YLs about their friends” and “(pen)Friends about our YLs”. So your letters and pictures are very welcome. Preferably via E-mail.
An year ago I wrote:
This 2000 year was very successful for us. At last we repaired our roof and our room.
It became possible owing to support of our friends. Thank you ever so much again and again for your donations, our dears!
It was OK last autumn(in 2000 – very wet) and this year so long as it was cold. Since It had got warm and snow had melted water began to drop down from our ceiling again. Not so intensively as it was before repair but still. So now the company, which made the repair last year, have to repair our room and our roof again at their own expense, but it will be unconvenient for us, so as nobody knows what has happened with our roof because it’s looking out absolutely intact.
In my previous newsletter I wrote:
RZ9MYL could represent Asiatic Russia (perhaps the only station from this country) and be on the air via AO-40 constantly if we could equip the satellite station. The most experienced of our friends in this field is Reinhard Richter DJ1KM, one of the top AMSAT-DL managers. We asked him to manage this project, but of course he can do nothing without your help. As we here.
Some days ago there was a question in our VHF-forum:
- Is there anybody in Russia, working via AO-40?
There is no positive answer still.
Please help us to be the first in Russia.
During this year we have made very good 2x21el Yagi for 430 MHz, which can be used as a separated Cross-Yagi. Due to Reinhard Richter DJ1KM, who provided us a 13 cm – 2 m converter, we have completed to equip downlink for satellite station. For uplink we need 430 MHz all mode transceiver with power output more than 50 Watts. It’s rather expensive even second hand. So we need your help. Some of you already have made donations. Our warm gratitude for their contribution to DJ9SZ, DL5ZBT, DL9KBB and especially to DK1EAW, G4OLF and K5AB!
To equip satellite station is more over important, that now we have some problems with TLFI. One powerful company complains to our local FCC about interference to their telephone and fax equipment, that’s why we are not allowed to work on 15 m band during working hours if our antenna is beaming to Europe.
In the previous AL-99 I had compared my salary with the price of ink-cartridge. This problem still exist. In February 2000 we had replaced our HP DJ690C. Now we have Lexmark 3200. For my present monthly salary I can buy just 1 cartridge for our new printer. In this year we had no problems with ink thanks to G3GIQ and K5AB. They sent us by post totally 2 colour and 4 black cartridges – just enough for printing for the whole year. We are still using their cartridges after refilling. Our warm gratitude to Henry and Alan!
One more achivement. In summer we could sell some unused equipment and buy one more computer for our shack. It is Pentium III-800 with 256 Mbyte RAM, HDD 20 Gbyte(gift from DL1SEC) and CD-burner. So now we have 3 W95/98 computers and 2 DOS computers. As you understand our radioclub is non-profitable organization. At this very hard economic situation in Russia we are working for the future and it is very difficult. But it’s possible!
Yes, our radio club is still alive!
