Hi there! I just vistied the pages about Pitcairn on the internet. Just a very few word about my self. I'm 40 yaers old and live in Norway, not far away from the City Trondheim in the midle of Norway. I'm a sailor, educated as Captain-Master Mariner and hav been sailing at sea all my life since I was 16. In 1993 and 1994 I worked as a Chief Officer on an Amercain owned vessel named "Nancy C" We was carring motorfuel antiknock compound, a kind of additived to gasoline. On our voyage from Callao-Peru towards Brisbane-Australia we made a small deviation in our sailing route, and arrived at your beautiful island Pitcairn 21st of January 1994. We had a stop for approximately 2 hours and about 20 of yours who lives there came on board and visited the vessel which we all faound very intersting and had a very good time with yours. I remeber also that the Norwegian lady Kari was on board, she worked at your radiostation due to she was a radioperator. If she still there, give her my best regards and do not hesitate to replay on this mail. Best regards Bjørn-Helge Korsnes

Please forward this greatings to mrs. Kari Boye Young.

Jukka. Having just logged on to your site I am amazed at your marvelous acheivements in the world of Ham Radio. Congratulations! You certainly brought back many memories of a wonderfull time I had on Pitcairn 2 years ago and of the several wonderfull hours spent at Tom and Betty's. Although I am not a radio man,I have been fortunate to talk via 'ham' to Tom and Betty during regular 'skeds'with a mutual friend on Norfolk Island, and look forward to again shortly. Your photos and details of your DXpedition make your site a very worthy one to visit, even for the non 'ham'. Thanks so much.

I must admit I'm becomming concerned as many of my friends in this area have already received your card. I worried that my letter did not get to you, I sent it the day after our QSO. I really hate to bother you but is there any way you can check to see if my letter arrived safely? I sent the QSL card and a few green stamps. Hi Jukka, I'm want to say thank you very much for our QSOs. Especially the QSO on 80m SSB. You are an excellent operator. I had a least only a Trap Dipol 4m up the ground and 700Watts. Thank you so much for that qso !!! Sorry that I missed you at the Convention in Friedrichshafen, but I hope to hear you soon calling me at my first expedition as VK9XY from 13-26. What an adventure! Thanking you Jukka for hearing my sigs on 10m and 30m. I moved to a new QTH on January 19th and hastily assembled my Butternut in late February so that I could get a QSO with you. The 30m CW was a new one all band in that mode - I have always been QRT when Pitcairn was QRV in CW since I got licenced in 1982, so VP6 has proved quite elusive to me on the key...It was a very pleasant surprise to work you on 10m SSB on the same antenna! 73 and safe journey home, Phil G4OBK

Jukka: Pleased we finally made a QSO on 10M. 5-9+ signal in Hayward CA. You have a very informative web site with interesting pictures. Stop by and look at my web site. I am sure you will be happy to return home to Espoo. I have been on 10m since 1951. Great band. Wishing you and your family good health and great DX. Richard

It was great working you on six meters two day in a row 4/7 & 4/8. And on ten meters on 4/9. The web site is the best. I downloaded pictures for my wife who is also a fan of Pitcairn Island. She was wondering how Tom Christian was doing and I was able to show her a picture. I would love to do what you have done on Pitcairn Island. Rich N4RFN

During my 53 years life as a radio amateur I never have had the opportunity until now to work Pitcairn. Nevertheless it has been complitely impossible to work Jukka in the pile up chaos! Maybe Jukka has heard me sometime. Anyhow, I think he is so fed up with all those dupes (he often says:"worked b4") so if and when he has heard me he presumably thinks:" that guy have I worked before". --- I will be very pleased if I could work Pitcairn once -- just only one QSO for a new DXCC entity. But how? Any suggestion before Jukka closes his elusive station? 73 de SM7VY (100 watts, GP and 40 m band cw around 04 -0530z ) Karl

Hello Jukka, Just stopped by to say hello agn, tu fer Pitcairn VP6 on 8 bands, what fun the hunt for your signal, no special band qsy's. What a great operation. You have done much training for new es young hams in dx operations, you've given the opportunity es excitement to thousands of restricted license hams on 10 meter SSB to wrk rare DX, when was the last time that anyone heard Pitcairn on 10 meters with such a potent signal. One suggestion, maybe some slow speed cw just above 28.200 for the US novices before u leave Pitcairn, I still remember how exciting my first cw dx contact was as a novice 40 years ago. gl es a safe trip home to ur family. 73 Cliff N7HIY

Hi Jukka - it has been a pleasure for me reading your excellent homepage. Why Pitcairn? was of my main interest and now I do understand your demands and wishes very well. A few days ago i was able to have my only contact with you in CW on 10mtrs, my favourite band - thank you ! It wasn´t quite easy to get through the pile up - even with 4-ele Yagi and 1 KW. It seems to me that we in Northern Germany often have worse propagation than the rest of the world. I also worked VR6HI in 1979 ( first of April ! ) : ops were Chuck, ZL1ADI and Ron, ZL1AMO ( you asked for QSL info ) and i also worked VR6TC of course several times on different bands. I met Tom personally 1990, when he visited the 7 Days Adventist community in Hamburg with part of his family. Please pass my best regard to Tom and family. My last DXpedition was OJ0MA in 1979 - an unforgetable week on Market Reef with Kee, OH0NA. Have a nice stay on Pitcairn Island - enjoy the pile ups - and have a safe trip back home. 73 from Hamburg de Wolfgang, DK5XO

The VP6BR DXpedition has really been excellant. Jukka has really provided many DXers with a new country on many bands. He has spent a lot of time on the bands at unusual times thus trying propagation at different times of day. Thanks for a GREAT operation !!!

Jukka is really perfect op and i wonder how stuborn he must be to withstand all these pilups month by month! Anyway maybe i am unlucky man unable to get thru his pilups on low bands: itried two mornings on 40 but it was not enough of my TL922 1kw and w3dzz at 17 meters... I strugled hard to find Jukka on 20 where my sigs seem to be best from her with KT34 XA.I finally got him in WPX SSb after long hanging on and after few days on CW.It doesn't seem his long operation has deminished public interest at all.. 73!Ted,LY2OX

Hi Jukka, Heard you this evening Thursday, March 30, 2000 at approximately 0100Z on 28.447MHz and you were 59+20dB here in Phoenix. Been trying to get into your log, but that pileup is the worst I have ever heard! Only operate mobile here with 25 watts, so my chances are very slim. Suggest you give mobiles an exclusive opportunity. Those big gun killowatts with their beams are impossible to compete with. Thank you and best of luck. '73 Kevin, KA7GQX p.s. Beautiful pictures!!

Having met Jukka at the RSGB HF Convention in Windsor october 1999 it has been a great pleasure to contact him on Pitcairn Island. Now CW 10-80m and 4-Bands on SSB. My association with Pitcain Is was on 17th June 1986 when I was the UK link with Operation Raleigh Expedition around the world voyage sailing from the City of Hull. I had the pleasure then of a QSO with VR6HIJL on Henderson Is operating from the Beach. I have several photgraphs taken by the team and will always treasure them. How about another 40-yrs Jukka? I was first licenced in September 1957 soon to celebrate 50-years. A wonderfull hobby and friends around the globe. 73 John

HI Jukka. A real adventure for You.Thanks for 2 QSO and hunting you on more bands. But very disappointed on 9th March 2000. Heard You very fine on 10 Mhz, and was calling, but surprised to hear that almost every 5th QSO was a QSO B4. Very well known c/s from SM, DL, G, OK,OM and W. What are they thinging of? - They are causing QRM for all, also You, as they are not accepting You to call a specified station, - they just call on top of them. - The same problem when I was in OX, but back in 1978-1980 when I was QRV from Macquarie Island VK0JC it was not that bad. - Say hello to the inlanders from an ex. r/o in LAURITZEN REEFERS, often bringing mail to and from them. - I ended up in polar vessel NELLA DAN/OZKC, and now working on Lyngby Radio/OXZ. Hope You'll tell Your story when You return. All the best. 73 de OZ8AE Joergen

Jukka: We are a ham family. Last night you met my xyl, Faye, WA2KVV. You also met my son, N2WKS. He contacted you from his club's station one minute after I spoke with you on 15m. So now we have 6 contacts. I used a dipole in the attic (~25 feet high) on 12 and 17. On 10m, 15m and 20m I use a very old small antenna called the "mini quad". Most of the contacts so far have been with 100 watts but on 20 I used an amplifier. I'm hoping we can have contacts on 40m and 80m using a 40m dipole. I've been licensed since 1966. Faye got her license after we were married one year. My son Zev got his because he wanted to use a radio in the car like his mother. Now he is a big dx'er. (our two daughters never got interested.) Like you, I've turned hobby into profession. I work in the cellular telephone industry. Thanks for the qso's, I hope we can have many more. Also, thanks for the R1MVA QSLs. That was a very nice operation. We all got cards ok. You even found a card "on the table" for me and sent that separately. That was very nice. Thanks for all. 73 and "good DX" Shel WA2UBK [email protected] (or [email protected])

Hi, Jukka, Finally worked you today at 2114Z on 28.030 in the ARRL DX Contest. Thank you so much for Pitcairn. I am glad we could celebrate you r40 years in ham radio and get me another new country together . Also I did receive the QSL you sent me for R1MVA but it arrived after you had left for the Pacific. I heard on the news the Pitcairn Islanders are up in arms about people usurping their high level domain name suffix (like the .com but I forget what it is there...). Maybe you heard about that while you were there. Anyhow, thanks again for your help. I hope you are enjoying yourself there. My best to you and your friends on Pitcairn Island. I heard that you had trouble getting an amp but you were quite loud in here with 100 watts and you must have heard my 100 watts and attic dipole! VY 73 and best DX, Mike in Ohio
