OE5OHO and contesting in Austria

Since approximately 1995 we do have short contest calls available here in Austria - and we had these short contest calls before the Germans!! Prior to that time our club callsign (OE5XVL) was used in contests and compared to our OE5T nowadays this 6-letter call is r e a l l y long and by no chance handy. Shortly after the first rumours about the new "single-letter-suffix-calls" we tried to get one and were successful.
I first joined the CQWW SSB efforts by our club in the very early 1990s - just taking a look at the OPs pulling out weak-ones. A while later it was time for me to change the club and I joined OE5XVL. Very quickly I was elected for the contestmanagers position - and since 1995 I am re-elected all the time.
I guess it was the right time, that our club needed some fresh blood and someone with passion. And I somewhat like to improve a station! There were many projects I initiated and where I had to lend a hand myself with the building work - but most would not have been completed without the members help!!
A regular contest we are participating in is the American CQ-Magazine`s CQ World Wide International DX Contest. It is a yearly event that has become a habit! We are taking part for fun as most of the mini-team are no real contesters beside me but I try to motivate them and to feed them with information about shortwave, contesting and other relevant topics. Last but not least I put all my energy together when I am operating the running station - of course.
Our setup is puny compared to real contest-stations and our environment is not the best for DXing (see OE5XVL/OE5T-page). But with some little improvements from one event to the other we maximize our results, have a look yourself:
