People who live in the city, will never understand the
satisfaction one can get from living on a farm. No matter what the size,
if you have animals (outside of the typical hamster, dog or cat), you gain
an appreciation for our ancestors who depended on their farm animals, and
the actual work they perform.
Ruth and I have between 20 and 30 Chickens, as well as
two sweet, spoiled horses. Our horses actually perform no work around the
farm. They are what would be known as "hay burners".
"EX", a teen aged saddle breed horse, was a rescue animal which
we purchased some years back, and have begun to bring back not only his
weight, but his sanity which he lost from an abusive owner. He tends to be
a woman's horse, shying from men when they approach. He only recently, has
begun to let me handle him. Splash, a young colt Ruth and I purchased
before he was actually born, is a sweet, loving, and chubby Arabian horse,
soon to be saddle trained. His temperament is similar to that of a house
dog, following you where ever you go.
The eggs from our hens, make some of the best farm
breakfasts you can ever experience. Once you taste, see, and eat a farm
fresh egg, you will never purchase store bought eggs ever again. Farm
fresh is truly heaven for your taste buds.
