I was monitoring the local 2m repeater one day, and boy did I get a surprise! It is normal for stations as far away as 70 miles to be heard, but when a VE8 station from Canada put out a call, as you can imagine, I was gobsmacked! It was not until the next meeting of the local radio club in Stranraer, GM4RIV, did I realise what was going on - a local radio ham, MM1BHO, had linked his radio to the internet, allowing 'Hams' from all around the globe to 'log-on' and give a call out on his radio, which was purposefully tuned into the local repeater. This system of internet linking, with voice-chatting software called I-Phone, fascinated me. I had to download the software, and have a go at this myself. Below are conference rooms, mostly repeaters, where you can see HAMs chatting away. You need to have i-phone installed to join in these discussions, and it goes without saying, you must be a licensed radio amateur.
