The importance of well wired audio cables should not be underestimated, RF, intermmittent connectivity and excessive cable lengths can all be avoided by making your own. This is what I do using Klotz MC5000 high quality mic cable and Neutrik connectors. Having the right tools to hand helps a lot. Credit to M0MSW for showing me how.

Firstly the outersheath is stripped back about 40mm, the braid is moved away from the blue and the red and blue are separated. Twists mustnt be too tightly twisted as by doing so will hinder the tinning process.

Heatshrink is applied over the ends before tinning. Heatshrink acts as a heat dissipator and protects the insulation between wires.

Tinned ends are trimmed

The shield tinned wire needs to be further trimmed to ensure it will fit into the connector solder lug

The solder part of the connector is prepped

The the cables are soldered in place (pin 2 is the hot end)

Black tape to bind it all

And now one assembled custom length lead

Repeat this lots of times lol
