I was born on april 29-th, 1964 in Pernik, Bulgaria. This is an industrial town situated about 30 km SW from Sofia.

My first meeting with ham radio was when I was a little child in 1970. This happened in the local radio club in the small town Bobov dol, where I lived temporary. The club station was LZ1KVF.

My first steps were to learn morse code, and to start participating in indoor High Speed Telegraphy competitions. Very soon the first successes came: In 1976 I took 1-st place in the National Championship. Next years competing became my destiny, hi. Together with this I was very keen in CW HF operation. My appreciation goes to many people who helped my training and growth as a radioamateur. The most important to be mentioned are my first elmer Jordan Toshev 'Dancho' LZ1RU, and to the late Kosta Kishishev LZ1FN (SK 2004) who was coach of the Bulgarian National Team in HST for many years.

My HF activity started in 1976 on the club station LZ1KVF, as well as a SWL LZ1-C-66. During the years I was member of several local radio clubs: LZ1KDW, LZ1KTU - Pernik, LZ1KPG, LZ1KSF, LZ1KAB, LZ1BFR, LZ1KDP, LZ1KBB, LZ1KAG - Sofia, LZ1KBR - Breznik and others.

My personal callsign LZ1PJ was issued in 1988. Unlike many other countries, in Bulgaria you had to learn operating on some club station, have some experience as a SWL, pass examinations for radioamateur class, and only then you could apply for a personal licence. I covered the highest class 'A' at that time.

Preferred mode of operation is CW, but I also operate SSB sometimes. Near future includes some plans for starting RTTY, PSK and SSTV operation.

As I mentioned, my 'love' is High Speed Telegraphy. After some 15 years as a competitor, I was involved as a coach of the national team as well. I have took part in the following major HST Championships:

Other of my ham favourites are HF contesting [I am member of LZ9W contest team], Island Chasing and Manual Morse key collecting. I plan to publish photos of my morse key collection as soon as I have the time to prepare them. I have about 70 keys.

My family: my wife Valya, LZ5AV, and three children: son Miroslav (1987) daughters Violeta (1991) and Kalina (1998).
Present occupation: Air Traffic Services Authority, Sofia Airport - Flight Data Processing Dept.
Former occupations: Morse code tutor in local radioclub LZ1KSF - Sofia; Coach of National HST Team - Central Radioclub LZ1KAB; Taxi driver; Radio officer - Ministry of Defence.
