All DCS members and members of the South Bay's city-affiliated disaster amateur radio groups and encouraged to check in on as many frequencies as practical from their location. (LMT-01) Routine: 03/30/2026 0810 hours To: All Members From: Diana Feinberg, S-60 We are saddened to report our long-time former member Dale Hanks, N6NNW and T-57, passed away last Friday at age 98 following a lengthy illness. Dale retired from DCS late last year and had served as the amateur radio City Radio Officer for Rancho Palos Verdes during 2000-2025. He was instrumental in getting the RPV Emergency Communication Center funded and built at City Hall, as well as the N6RPV 440 repeater site atop San Pedro Hill. A memorial service for Dale will be Monday, April 6, at 1030 hours in the LDS Church, 5845 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, followed by burial at Green Hills Cemetery at 1230 hours. The family advises all are welcome at Dale's service and burial. (LMT-02) Routine: 03/30/2026 0830 hours To: All Members From: Diana Feinberg, S-60 Mark your calendar for our next Districts 3 & 17 Member Meeting via Zoom on Thursday, April 30, from 1930-2030 hours. We'll be covering disaster communication developments in our area and upcoming DCS activities. (LMT-03) Routine: 03/30/2026 0900 hours To: All Members From: Deane Bouvier, S-50 Caos Capital has filed three FCC applications for experimental licenses to transmit 2.7 MHz-wide radar signals at 3 kW ERP, 10 kW peak power, anywhere in the 420-450 MHz ham band, for 6 months from April 15 to October 15. They propose three transmit locations in L.A. County: Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne, and El Segundo, and one at Desert Center in Riverside County. It is true that the Federal government is primary in the 70cm ham band, but Caos is asking for experimental licenses which must operate on a non-interference basis with licensed operators. We must continue to be vigilant and file FCC consumer complaints when we experience interference; never more important than now. We are aware that ARRL, the national amateur radio association, has made FCC filings to deny the new Caos requests. (LMT-04) Routine: 03/30/2026 0915 hours To: All Members From: Deane Bouvier, S-50 We encourage all members to use the 440 PV-West repeater during non-net hours to keep this frequency active. We would like to ensure PV-West's frequency isn't encroached by another repeater. (LMT-05) Routine: 03/30/2026 0930 hours To: All Members From: Diana Feinberg, S-60 We need every member to periodically operate a portion of our Monday night nets either at the Lomita Sheriff Station or from home. Here's our schedule through April:

We just noticed that Caos Capital has filed three FCC applications for experimental licenses to transmit 2 MHz-wide radar signals at 3 kW ERP, 10 kW peak power, anywhere in the 420-450 MHz ham band, for 6 months from April 15 to October 15. They propose three transmit locations in L.A. County: Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne, and El Segundo, and one at Desert Center in Riverside County. (LMT-01) Routine: 03/09/2026 0915 hours To: All Members From: Diana Feinberg, S-60 Yesterday's Los Angeles Marathon occurred on an unseasonably hot day and visibly demonstrated the importance of proper hydration whether one is a runner or not. Numerous heat-related issues were attended to along the 26.2-mile route, at the finish line in Century City, and at nearby hospitals. The L.A. (LMT-01) Routine: 01/05/2026 1015 hours To: All Members From: Diana Feinberg, S-60 Happy New Year to all...and our District's 4th Quarter 2025 DCS hours report is being submitted at 1700 hours today. Final call: If you have any 2025 member hours not previous reported please advise by 1630 hours this afternoon. (LMT-02) Routine: 01/05/2026 1030 hours To: All Members From: Deane Bouvier, S-50 Tonight marks the one-year anniversary of major interference across 222-225 MHz from the Caos experimental radar system we encountered while at the South Los Angeles Station operating the DCS Countywide net. Currently the remaining Caos experimental license in Riverside County is in effect until 05/01/26, on a non-interference basis with amateurs. Caos is not being heard in the South Bay currently and it appears the next phases of their radar testing are moving to military bases elsewhere. It still remains important to be vigilant and report every incidence of 220 ham band interference, most likely on repeater inputs and simplex operation. (LMT-03) Routine: 01/05/2026 1100 hours To: All Members From: Deane Bouvier, S-50 Members are still encouraged to use the 440 PV-West repeater during non-net hours to keep this frequency active. We would like to ensure PV-West's frequency isn't encroached by another repeater. (LMT-04) Routine: 01/05/2026 1100 hours To: All Members From: Diana Feinberg, S-60 We need every member to help operate a portion of our Monday night nets either at the Lomita Sheriff Station or from home. Please advise of any dates during the 1st quarter of 2026 that work best for you before we assign members for each Monday. (LMT-05) (End of Messages) |
