Estimated Planetary K-Index

The K-index is a code that is related to the maximum fluctuations of horizontal components observed on a magnetometer relative to a quiet day, during a three-hour interval. The conversion table from maximum fluctuation (nT) to K-index, varies from observatory to observatory in such a way that the historical rate of occurrence of certain levels of K are about the same at all observatories. In practice this means that observatories at higher geomagnetic latitude require higher levels of fluctuation for a given K-index.

3 Day Satellite Environment

proton and electron flux

Proton Flux is GOES-11 data, Electron Flux is GOES-10 and GOES-11 data,
and GOES Hp is GOES-12 and GOES-11 data

The Satellite Environment plot combines satellite and ground-based data as an overview of the current satellite envionment, particularly at geosynchronous altitude. Although these data are of interest to the satellite community, they do not include all parameters and energy ranges known to be associated with satellite anomalies.

3 Hour Geomagnetic K-Indices for Last 7 Day's

3 Hour Geomagnetic K-Indices for Last 7 Day's Updated Every 15 Min.

This chart is updated every 15 minutes at 1, 16, 31, and 46 minutes past the hour. Use the browser Refresh or Reload option to ensure the latest data is shown. Boulder, Colorado and Fredericksburg, Virginia are mid-latitude stations. College, Alaska is a high-latitude station. Estimated Planetary is a combined measure of several mid- and high-latitude stations.

K-index Warnings are issued when a Boulder K-indices of 4, 5, 6, and 7 or greater is expected.
K-index Alerts
are issued when the Boulder K-index reaches 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 in a 3-hour period.

3 Hour Geomagnetic A-Indices for Last 30 Day's

Latest A-indices graph

3 Hour Geomagnetic A-Indices for Last 30 Day's Updated Every 15 Min.

A-index Watches are issued when a Fredericksburg, Virginia (mid-latitude) A-index of greater than 20, 30, 50, or 100 is predicted. These thresholds are marked on the chart. When observed A-indices exceed 100, the charts are individually scaled as needed.
