The second kit the club has to offer is a 6 Meter MCW transceiver. The transmitter section is based on the 74LS06 Hex Open Collector Inverter Gate IC. The oscillator used in the transceiver is a TTL type with an output frequency of 50.4404MHZ. The output power of the transmitter is approximately three hundred fifty milliwatts when operated from a six volt supply or approximately five watts when operated from a twenty-four volt supply. The audio tone of seven hundred hertz is obtained from a LM555 oscillator chip. Using a resistor along with an electrolytic capacitor forms a "soft key" circuit for removing key clicks. The audio oscillator may either replace or be used in conjunction with the power microphone circuit used in the 10 Meter transceiver if and only if you operate the circuit from six volts do not use twenty-four volts for the AM transceiver. There is a five element Chebyshev low-pass filter on the output of the transmitter to reduce output harmonics. The microphone is used in conjunction with the audio oscillator so that you may indentify yourself verbally until you are comfortable sending and receiving Morse Code. The circuit above is intended for no-code technicians and beginners in QRP to help them gain more knowledge on circuit building and to build their code sending speed. For more information about six meters try this website at
http://www.uksmg.org/archive.html .The "converter" for the 6 Meter transceiver uses a SA602A mixer with a 22.1184MHZ crystal. The 50.4404MHZ from the transmitter minus the 22.1184MHZ crystal give a difference of 28.322MHZ. The output of the "converter" is fed into the receiver section of the 10 Meter transceiver. This is only a suggestion if you already have built the 10 Meter transceiver. The 6 Meter receiver kit is also available.
The receiver description is the same as for the 10 Meter receiver.
You will need 50 ohm Coaxial cable the length you require from your shack to the antenna. The "V" antenna works very well and the dimensions are as follows:
For 10 Meters the length of each wire leg is 94 inches. The legs are positioned straight out 90 degrees from each other. Take the ends of the legs closest to each other and connect that leg to the center conductor of the 50 ohm coaxial cable. Connect the other leg to the braid of the coaxial cable. The antenna can be supported by two 2" x 2" boards nailed together or you can make a PVC frame for it. The antenna has no gain.
For 6 Meters the construction is the same as the 10 Meter antenna only the leg lengths are 54 inches.
There are "converter" kits available for all of the HF bands and for 6 Meters, 2 Meters and 1.3 Meters. The "converters" allow you to use your current mono band HF receiver to receive any other HF band plus the three VHF bands.
