Recently a source at the patent department has revealed that microsoft has obtained ownership of ones and zeros. Bank, *Cheque Mate A mathematician, a physicist, an engineer and a corporation are all given identical rubber balls and told to find the volume. They are given anything they want to measure it, and have all the time they need.
The mathematician pulls out a measuring tape and records the circumference. He then divides by 2 times Pi to get the radius, cubes that, multiplies by Pi again, and multiplies by four-thirds to find the volume.
The physicist gets a bucket of water, places 1.000000 gallon of water in the bucket, drops in the ball, and measures the displacement to six significant figures.
The engineer writes down the serial number of the ball, and looks it up.
The corporation names a steering committee with the assignment of assembling several focus groups to determine which departments will be responsible for measuring the volume of the ball.
Two months later the focus groups report back to the steering committee with their staffing recommendations. After the steering committee reviews the results of the focus groups, they pick their own team leaders to head up the project, now known as the Elastomer Spheroid Volumetric Measurement Project, or ESVMP.
Company wide employee meetings are held to announce the up-coming project, which will start once the team leaders assemble their teams, probably by the beginning of the next quarter.
Once the ESVMP teams are announced more employee meetings are held to announce the project is a go, and that even thought they aren't all part of the project, they are still an important asset to the company.
The project hits a snag when the specifications for the ball change, resulting in two months of wasted work.
After the new specifications are received, the ESVMP team puts in a frantic three months of ten hour days, plus Saturdays, and finishes the project.
Employee meetings are again held to thank the team for their hard work to complete the project, and to announce pending staff reductions needed due to the increasing competition in the ball measurement industry.
The unidentified source at the patent department said the when microsoft has finalized all of the legal aspects of their rights to these numbers all software users will have to pay a surcharge for the use of microsofts property. The surcharge, the source tells us, will amount to a fee though small each time a one or zero is processed by the computer. The surcharge will be automatically billed to the end users credit card and will be totalled by special software embedded in all microsoft compliant software.
Our source also told us that a normal users fee for say a game of solitaire will be in the neighborhood of $25.00. The larger the program and the longer it is used will determine the amount billed to the end user.
Microsoft also is reportedly negotiating with the government to waive the surcharge for all the ones and zeros on all our currency. Speculation is that the fee will be deferred if the government drops the justice departments action against microsoft.
